In 1927 Dr. G.T. Weber, C.P. Porter, D.D. McCarty, L.R. Funk, Oscar Kaufman, J.F. Miller, T.E. Warren, Dr. O.C. Borah and Frank Carter formed the Richland Country Club as a non-profit corporation. Dr. Weber provided the funds to purchase approximatley 75 acers of land north of Vernor Lake, and the club agreed to repay him when money was available. Dr. Weber's cabin at Cow Ford some 15 miles away was moved and remodeled into a clubhouse, serving the club for over 25 years.

The first golf course was nine holes with three short holes, a par of 33 and sand "greens." The course was changed three times between its inception and 1966. A renovation in the '60s saw grass greens and a new clubhouse. Depression year memberships fees were $40.00 per year, while 1966 memberships cost $115.00 per year, considerably less than most clubs.

The Richland Country Club built a new clubhouse, installed grass greens on their course and made it one of the finest in this section of the state. The facility also offers a swimming pool.
